Ever since I was a young little lad, I have always retained a desire to purchase an old, 30 foot sailboat to restore into a technological work of art that I could use to sail down the coasts of America and in particular, to the Panama Islands. Turning the boat into a self-sustaining home, from desalination to wind and solar power, would allow me to retain independence from resources for weeks/months. This would provide me the freedom to sail as long as I need and more importantly, stay long at each island I happen to come across (I done some good charting in my day). Overall, something that would fit right into my characteristics of insanity.
Unfortunately though, this little ambition of mine has never come to fruition due to my undying focus on work. Recently however, with some major changes in my focus on life, I’ve figured that I might was start this little project of mine. It would be perfect. Since I am a fixer and problem solver by nature, fixing up the boat and solving all the engineering and design problems that arise would just ‘tickle me pink’. Once finished, living fives minutes away from the ocean, Huntington Harbor, and Catilana, along with the close proximity of places like Mexico, Santa Cruz, etc. would provide me with optimum destination to visit in a locality that would provide a good learning experience for my further ambitions in the art.
So with that said, I am beginning my adventure into the open sea. Step one, learn everything I can about sailing and find myself a boat that would fit my expectation of perfection.
