Okay, now this is just plain ole cool. While doing some research about social media channels, I stumbled upon this cool little coding done by a Mr. Kingsley Joseph of Saleforce. Created through Yahoo Pipes, this “Social Media Firehose” can track the mention of a company, such as ArisTech Media and their products and services, accross the social media spetrum such as Flickr, Technorati, Bloglines, Digg, YouTube, Friendfeed, Twitter and More!
The “Social Media Firehose” works like this: In the search field, type in the terms you want to track, like ArisTech Media or Google Ideas. The second field should contain .yourdomain.com (notice there is a dot before the domain, so make sure you KEEP THAT DOT). This prevents the search from reviewing info from your own blog or community.
Now when I did it, Yahoo returned me an empty list. However, I forced it to grab those feeds by clicking the “More Options” > “Get RSS Feeds” tab. Then you can re-run your search successfully, or at least I did. =P
The first time you run the search, Yahoo might return an empty list. To force it to go fetch feeds, click “More Options” and then click “Get as RSS”. You can then hit back and re-run the pipe successfully.
As a side note, I think Google Alerts is a more useful tool in regards for search mass media. Nevertheless, this pipe does contain some cool features. So, with that said, GO CHECK IT OUT.
